Lou Kreiger, Holdem Excellence: From Beginner to Winner,Conjelco, 1999; and Lou kreiger, More Holdem Excellence: A Winner for Life, conjelco, 1999

Both these books were originally published by B & F Enterprises, Holdem Excellence in 1995 and More Holdem Excellence in 1997.

A major plus for both these books is that Kreiger is both a writer and a poker player; as a consequence these books are well written. That’s not the normal situation in most poker books.

Although the two books don’t really overlap much, they are very similar. In both books, Kreiger takes an approach based on patience and discipline.

His primary perspective seems to be hand domination, which is very dominant in the first book.

Holdem Excellence is aimed more directly at the beginning player, and most of the advice is aimed at keeping the reader out of situations that cause trouble.

It’s good approach for beginners and a valuable book to read. To Lou, poker is a game of discipline.

More Holdem Excellence, he has more of a focus on a money-flows-from-bad-players-to-good-players perspective than he did in Holdem Excellence.

This book is aimed at the more experienced player and has more discussion on how to exploit the mistake of other rather than how to avoid mistakes yourself.

Lee Jones, Winning Low Limit Holdem,
2nd edition, conjelco, 2000

Like the Warren book, is aimed at playing in low-limit games in public cardrooms, but it is about low-limit with structured betting, rather than spread limits.

The difference is that the structured games have more blind money in the pot to start, and it’s important to play more aggressively from the beginning.

Jones takes a combination of an odds perspective and a domination perspective in this book.

That’s the best approach to take in structured poker games of mostly loose-passive players, and those are the kinds of games at which he aims the book.

Even if you don’t play in the low-limit games Jones addresses, this is a good book to read if you often find yourself in loose-passive games.
